About No Place B & B:
Henry Williamson referred to this marvellous countryside as the Land of the Two Rivers in his engaging story of Tarka the Otter. This area, set between the rivers of the Torridge and the Taw, is high ground and close by is provided views of both Dartmoor and Exmoor, both within easy reach.
We are close to the civil war town of Great Torrington, which is home to Dartington Crystal, the Royal Horticultural Gardens at Rosemoor, which are situated approximately 3 miles away, and the 1646 Civil War Centre opened in 1999. The town also affords an access to the 180-mile long Tarka Trail, which has been designed primarily for the long distance walker and cyclist, although it is of value to anyone interested in more leisurely recreation. The rugged and picturesque North Devon coast is best viewed from the South West Coastal Path, which may be easily reached by car.
We extend a warm welcome to this old cottage set in peaceful rural surroundings. "No Place" is thought to have been built in the 17th century and is of the traditional cob and stone construction. The origin of the house name is equally lost in time but certainly appears so named on the first Ordnance Survey map. It is suggested the derivation of the name recognises the location of the house close to the borders of several parishes and, perhaps, was no place for local taxation. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case.
We offer traditional and comfortable double rooms with their own bathrooms. Bedrooms have tea and coffee making facilities and colour TV (with Sky). We also supply towels. If it is cool, do not worry as rooms are centrally heated.
We have been complemented on our breakfasts. The ingredients are fresh and locally produced. All dietary requirements can normally be accommodated.
