About Big Barn:
The extraordinarily handsome living room, which extends the entire length of the property (21m), has polished oak planked flooring and is flooded with light from magnificent double doors, part glazed roof and unusual superb floor to ceiling windows. All this, combined with the eclectic mix of bright contemporary and antique furniture, is a stunning contrast with the mellow stone walls, and the outstanding quality of the kitchen and bathrooms makes this superlative rural retreat something very special.
Big Barn enjoys a splendid position, with lovely country views from most rooms that look across a lake and down a tranquil wooded valley. Should you need to leave the comfort of this glorious place, the stunning South Devon coastline for sailing, fishing, walking along the South West Coast Path as well as enjoying the many golden sandy beaches are all located close by.
Large double doors open into the magnificent living space. The sitting area is provided with large corner sofas, chairs, footstools, bright cushions and a superb 50in home cinema large screen TV with DVD and surround sound. A specially designed wood burner hugs one corner and there are large double doors that open to the terrace. The central part of this amazing room has a huge rustic dining table offset with smart contemporary chairs to seat 12. Now you reach the kitchen area, this has a definite 'wow' factor, well laid out, deeply practical and fun to use. Glossy black units, topped with black granite house a dishwasher, two pull-out larders, large integral fridge with ice box and a 'Stoves' range cooker comes complete with a 7 ring gas hob, double electric ovens and warming drawers. Concealed doors separate the adjoining utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer and a shower room with large corner shower, basin and wc. Steel and oak spiral stairs wind up to the mezzanine level above the living room and is screened with a part obscured floor to ceiling glass partition. A double (5ft mattress width) comfortable sofa bed makes this a flexible space for either a sleeping or study area.
From the living room two sets of stairs lead down to two separate bedroom areas and each bedroom has a TV with Freeview, DVD, very unusual beds and their own bath/shower rooms. A useful secret door in the wardrobes of bedrooms 2 and 3 can by-pass the stairs.
Bedroom 1 (Lily). A pair of Louis XVI French beds form a spectacular 7ft bed. En-suite bathroom with double-ended bath, central taps, shower over, basin and wc. The original mangle root shoot acts as a sky light in this bathroom.
Bedroom 2 (Disco). Adaptable twin bedded room with 4ft Victorian iron beds and fitted wardrobe. En-suite wet room with rose-head and hand shower, basin and wc.
Bedroom 3 (Indian). Double bedroom with 5ft four-poster bed and fitted wardrobe. En-suite wet room with rose-head and hand shower, basin and wc.
Bedroom 4 (Woods). A pair of pretty painted 3ft 6in Victorian iron beds with zip linked mattresses that can join to form a 7ft double bed. En-suite bathroom with bath, central taps, shower over, basin and wc.
Bedroom 5 (Mezz) is the very private mezzanine room, which is also provided with two single floor mattresses for children.
A private drive sweeps around the lake in the grounds up to the rear of the house where there is ample parking. A cobbled path leads up to the front door and there is a slate paved area provided with a large garden table and chairs. Housed in a neighbouring building is a games room with table tennis table, Pool table and darts board and a level and fenced mown paddock is provided for ball games. There is an enclosed lawned garden area that overlooks the lake and the valley.
